To prevent possible transgene outcross caused by maize pollen drift in an open field, it is desirable to express transgenic proteins in maize lines that do not produce pollen (male sterile). We have been collaborating with Dr. Roger Wise (USDA/ARS-ISU Plant Pathology Department) to evaluate the tissue culture and transformation (biolistic and Agrobacterium-mediated) performance of T-cytoplasm male sterile lines.
